An inquiry by Karnataka’s Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE) has found evidence of caste-based discrimination at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B), implicating six senior officials, including director Rishikesha T. Krishnan. Associate professor Gopal Das, belonging to a Scheduled Caste (SC), reported public humiliation, exclusion, and denial of opportunities. The investigation revealed the institute’s failure to establish statutory grievance redressal mechanisms for SC/ST employees. Das alleged intensified harassment after the inquiry began, prompting the Karnataka Social Welfare Department to recommend action under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. IIM-B denied the claims, citing support extended to Das since 2018 and linking his allegations to a promotion delay following student complaints. A court stay has been secured by one accused, and legal proceedings continue.
