The Employees Provident Fund Organization, through a circular dated January 30, 2024, has issued clarification regarding the adoption of Digital Joint Request. Obtaining Joint Request and Permission as per Para 26 (6) of the EPF Scheme, 1952 is necessary for an employee to contribute an amount exceeding the statutory limit. Therefore, a format for submitting the Joint Request under Para 26(6) of the EPF Scheme, 1952 has been endorsed by the Central Board of Trustees (CBT) during its 234th Meeting held on October 31, 2023.
In instances where employees have already contributed an amount exceeding the statutory limit and the employer has also paid administrative charges on such contributions made beyond the statutory limit, but the employee has either left the employment or passed away by October 31, 2023, it is considered that such cases have been permitted to contribute an amount exceeding the statutory limit. This decision aims to minimize difficulties for the involved parties. Existing members who are already contributing an amount exceeding the statutory limit, with their employers also paying administrative charges on such contributions made beyond the statutory limit, will not need to submit their Joint Requests in the provided format immediately.
