In a notification dated October 18, 2023, the Office of the Commissioner, Labour Department, Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi stated that all employers, contractors, and establishments on a construction site must pay the same wages to female workers as they do to male workers for the same work, as mandated by the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976.
According to the aforementioned notification, such employers, contractor establishments are required to provide separate toilets for male and female construction workers on a construction site, as mandated by the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996, and the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2002. Any violation of the said provisions would result in taking of penal action against the employers/contractors/establishments.
